What does polishing actually do to your paint?
Over time, sun, dust and washing with dirty cloths leave fine circular marks on the paint — swirl marks — plus light scratches that scatter light and make the colour look dull. Polishing works on that top layer with professional compounds and a polishing machine, buffing out the swirls and light scratches to bring back the depth of colour and the gloss the car had in the showroom. To be straight with you: polish removes surface-level scratches only — a deep scratch showing a different colour underneath needs bodywork, not polish. That's also why our technician always does a full exterior wash first, so no grit on the surface turns into new scratches during polishing.
When is polishing the right call?
Three situations where a polish genuinely pays off. First, before selling your car — the paint is the first thing a buyer looks at, and a glossy car negotiates far better than a faded one. Second, after a long summer parked in the sun — sunlight slowly eats away at the paint's shine, and polishing brings it back. Third, when you spot circular swirl marks under the garage light or in direct sunlight. In all three cases there's no detailing centre to drive to and wait at: the technician comes to your home or work with everything, every day from 9 AM to 7 PM, while you get on with your day.
Polish vs chemical wash — what's the difference?
Both cost the same — EGP 1,400 — but they solve completely different problems. Polish is about appearance: it works the paint from the outside, restoring gloss and removing swirl marks, and the bundle includes an exterior wash, rim polishing and an interior clean. A chemical wash is about deep cleanliness: it cleans the seats, upholstery and ceiling from the inside with specialised products, lifting stains and odours. So if your car is clean inside but the colour looks dull, pick the polish; if the paint is fine but the interior needs rescuing, pick the chemical wash. Want both plus a deep clean too?
